A love worth crossing the stars for.

Taka has been a dreamcatcher and part of Team 32 for over six decades, but nobody has tempted him like Ginger—a dancer at club Zee. Too bad dreamcatchers aren't allowed to have meaningful relationships with regular people. His willpower proves a finite resource, though, when a mission at the club means spending much more time around Ginger.

Ginger’s infatuation with Taka is unwavering. When he proves to have some paranormal skills of his own, he earns himself a place on the team—if he wants it. His decision will change his life—not to mention Taka’s—irrevocably.

But living in the now could prove an issue for a man who has as much history as Taka. Can Ginger’s determination help him make his way into Taka’s heart?

Book Review

‘Star-Crossed Lover’ is the second story set in the Dreamcatchers world, where evil creatures of various abilities launch brutal attacks on the life force of unsuspecting people. Several secret teams of fighters with a variety of abilities oppose them with the help of a range of sacred weapons originating with the ruling body of ancestors. Team 32 operates in Seattle and is at the center of the series, and it was good to see that Drew and Angelo are still doing well. The focus of this sequel is Taka, an older team member who has been pretty lonely. He tells the story and is in for more than a few surprises in this exciting action/adventure with a rich and deepening back story, lots of danger, revelations, and a few surprises.

The concept of star-crossed lovers turns out to be a part of this world, and it has both Taka and the man he secretly loves thrown for a loop at first. Taka is used to living and fighting alone, and as the reasons slowly emerge, I began to understand him better. Ginger is a dancer at a club that is particularly haunted by the evil spaga, and he has no idea about the existence of any supernatural fiends – but he does see and sense a lot more than an average human should.

As Taka and Ginger explore what is between them, it turns out that Ginger has a few talents that might come in useful, but they will not make his (or Taka’s) life any easier. Dealing with their new relationship as well as increasing attacks keeps both men busy. Theirs is an engaging story and between their team mates and the mother spirit – the spider woman, Asibikaashi – working together, they manage to survive to fight another day. I personally did not like the cliff-hanger at the end that leaves one of the main threads of the story unresolved. At least Ginger and Taka get their happy ending and it is clear that the next installment will follow in the foreseeable future.

If you like supernatural fights against evil, if you want to find out more about the fantastical world Liv Olteano has created, and if you’re looking for a read that is intense, suspenseful, and full of revelations, then you will probably like this novel.
