Book Blurb

Barren, unwanted—a lot of omegas would have given up. But not Holland. Tired of living down to other’s opinions, he reaches for something more and seduces the new Alpha, only to fall so far in love he can’t see the moon for the trees.

Quin’s ghosts won’t leave him alone. He lives like a ghost himself, but Holland’s shining light gives him courage to reach for healing and, maybe, a family. Except Holland has his own unhealed wounds and he refuses to mate, until disaster in another pack reminds them both how fragile life can be.

From that disaster rises a new determination, and Quin and Holland set out to change their world.

And through it all, the secret of the True Omega begins to unveil itself, bringing hope and fear in its wake.

Book Review

It appears as if all the hints the author's readers sent her after the end of the previous installment worked, as 'The Omega's Alpha' is the story of Quin and Holland. Since I was one of those pesky readers begging, I am more than thrilled at the release of this book. In case I forgot to say it when I'm in a coma from happiness, thank you, Ms. Byrde, I loved every moment.

Holland is Bax's cousin so he grew up in a pack with the same medieval ways of treating their omegas, teaching them only how to take care of a home, cook, clean, knit, dance, and be pretty. Holland's mate has repudiated him, torn up their mating contract, and dismissed Holland from his sight, because Holland wasn't able to get pregnant. Holland came to Mercy Hills to help Bax with the pups and be able to start new. An omega who is sent away is not looked at favorably by the rest of the pack. Even though Mercy Hills is better and more open-minded, Holland still has to deal with the stigma of being barren and unmated.

Quin has been struggling with PTSD since returning to Mercy Hills and taking over as alpha for his younger brother, Abel. Continuing forward with all the fabulous ideas Abel started, and continues with, is an overwhelming job. Quin wants to see the walls the humans put up around the enclaves go down in his lifetime. He's struggling with encouraging more pack members to get more schooling, find a trade, create something they can sell in the human world to help the pack's coffers, but more importantly, to help his pack to gain more self-respect, and to move away from the antiquated ideas that have held them back for far too long.

It was very difficult to watch when another pack's enclave burned almost entirely to the ground, killing a third of its members, and the soldiers stood outside the gates and refused to open them. The firefighters and trucks wouldn't even go inside to help, only spraying water over the tops of the walls. So Mercy Hills and a couple of other packs do the best they can to help, to bring food, supplies, medical care, and Quin is stunned when his old Marine Corps command shows up with government supplies and assistance. It is an emotional, heartbreaking, time for everyone. However, Garrick a member of Mercy Hills, brings a lawyer, photographer, and reporter, and the hope is that they can shed some light on this tragedy, and perhaps begin peaceful relations between shifters and humans.

"But my entire life I’d dreamed about that long stretch of time between conception and birth, of quiet moments with the baby moving inside, all the little firsts that were supposed to be the right of an omega. And now, of taking Quin’s hands and pressing them to my belly to let him feel the life inside."

Holland broke my heart many times, but his inner strength, and that of the other omegas - Baxter, Jason, Cale, and Bram - continued to remind me of their indomitable will, and how the other packs still stuck in medieval times were missing out. In a strange sort of fate, the photographer who was at the other pack's disaster puts Holland in touch with a fashion photographer and within a few months, Holland is becoming the talk of the fashion, and human, world, and not just because he's the only shifter model.

There is so much more that I could share about this novel but I'm not going to. I was, once again, fascinated by the slowly evolving changes coming to the Mercy Hills pack, and now to some humans. The world building in this series is incredible and not to be missed. I'm going to be on pins and needles waiting for the next installment as I'm really hoping that the author will continue with the history of omegas, packs, the enclaves, and True Omegas. A stunning work!
