Medic Reese Palmer has been called the heart of Rescue for Hire West. His wisdom has touched every member of the team. The weight of loneliness, responsibilities, and a rescue gone wrong send him to the edge of burnout. Needing a vacation, Reese takes off, but an accident changes everything. He wakes up lost and alone in a world he no longer understands.
Ex-detective, now hotdog vendor, Lee Sanchez has been watching the tall, injured homeless man. Intrigued, he offers him a hotdog. Attraction and desire urge these two together, but unknown facts keep them apart. The team from Rescue for Hire West will need to use all of their skills to find the one who has disappeared into thin air.
What happens when the man you know as your friend and teammate is no longer there? Is this a story of tragedy or a blessing? You decide.
Reece has always been a favorite character of mine, most likely because he has been there so much for every member of his team, both mentally and physically. He sort of has the resident shrink job, but very little is truly known about his own pain and suffering. What caused him to get into rescuing people for a living? Why be a medic? I had many questions and I hoped I would get some of them answered.
My heart broke for Reece and I shed a tear, or two, when he had to make a horrible decision - completely life and death - in the midst of a rotten natural disaster. This might have been the thing that finally broke his back and once his injuries healed, Roman sent him on vacation. Unfortunately, an accident happens, leaving Reece with no memory, no identification, and his team back at Los Héroes, completely unaware. For me, it was like one too many crappy life instances for Reece, and my heart hurt for him.
I couldn’t begin to imagine what Reece was going through, not understanding anything, only relying on his gut instincts. Meanwhile, of course, Roman and the team have mobilized to try and find their missing friend. It’s lucky for Reece that he finds his way to the beach where Lee has his food cart every day. Lee used to be an undercover cop and something about this tall, blond, gorgeous man is pulling at his protective instincts. When Roman finally finds Reece - through absolute luck - a lot of decisions have to be made by both Reece and Lee. My heart broke for every member of Rescue for Hire West when Reece recognized none of them and remembered nothing about his “family”.
Hands down Reece’s story is my favorite out of all of them, so far. Reece and Lee have far eclipsed Garret and Tolliver, and Styx and Flyer, my former favorites *grins*. A lot of this story was tough to read and I’m not going to reveal how everything ended up. Needless to say, I was thrilled that the one man who has wanted to find a man to love and share his life with forever, found just that, regardless of the circumstances.
