Book Blurb

Lord Perry Cavendish knows that he's seen as a not-too-bright, amiable, sporting sort of chap. The type who can hold his own in the boxing ring, drink most men under the table, and offer a useful opinion on a piece of horseflesh—but not much else.

When Perry visits his friend, Lysander Winterbourne, he is introduced to the Honourable Jonny Mainwaring, a free-thinking artist who is everything Perry is not: unconventional, emotional…  and very talkative.

At first, Perry is overwhelmed by the vibrant, witty Jonny Mainwairing, but when he agrees to sit for him, he discovers the real man beneath the dramatic flourishes, and the undeniable physical attraction he feels for Jonny begins to develop into something more.

But Jonny is not to be easily won over. While he has a longstanding weakness for brawny men like Perry, he’s still smarting from his latest heartbreak and determined to change his habit of throwing himself into each new affair without pausing to recover from the last.

Can Perry convince Jonny that he is more than just an empty-headed young buck, and that they could have a real future together?

Book Review

“When it comes to being intelligent it is clear that there is much more than simply what we can do as an individual; how we interact with others is a crucial element of how smart we are in the real world.” ~ Lucas

Lord Perry Cavendish, of ‘The Labours of Lord Perry Cavendish’ by Joanna Chambers, needs a break from his dull, meaningless life. He is tired and lonely; he wants to go somewhere to relax and be with people who care about him. Since he has an open invitation to visit his friend, Lysander Winterbourne, he decides that now is an excellent time to take him up on it.

As soon as Perry arrives, he realizes that it is terrible timing. Lysander is very busy with the harvest and has little time to spend with him. Perry feels foolish not to have thought of it and offers to leave. Lysander won’t hear of it. He is delighted that Perry has finally taken him up on his offer to visit and tells him to make himself at home. As it so happens, Perry isn’t the only visitor. Jonathan Mainwaring is a friend of Lysander’s partner, Adam. Despite Jonny’s flagrant mannerisms, Perry thinks he is the most beautiful man he has ever seen. Yet, Jonny’s openness takes him aback. Indeed this man couldn’t be flirting with him so overtly. Perry had caught Lysander and Adam in a kiss last Christmas, which made him reassess his feelings towards men. He still hadn’t acted upon it. Jonny certainly makes him want to, but Perry can’t imagine that Jonny would be attracted to a dullard, big oaf like himself.

Jonny has come to Lysander’s to recover from a bad breakup with his ex-lover, who left him unsure of himself. Perry is delightfully appealing, but Jonny has made himself a promise not to become involved with anyone else until he gets his bearings again and can move forward from a standpoint of strength rather than neediness. Right away, Jonny is attracted to Perry and can’t seem to stop flirting with him. Adam feels obligated to inform Jonny that Perry is naïve when it comes to romantic entanglements with another man and Jonny should proceed with caution. Determined that he can have a sexual relationship without involving his heart, Jonny decides to seduce Perry. What he doesn’t count on is how Perry responds.

Perry was told so often how worthless he was that he came to believe it, self-deprecating before someone else could. Jonny seemed to be suave and sophisticated, but underneath was filled with doubts about his self-worth. Both men needed to learn an important lesson. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else is going to either. Thanks, Joanna, for helping Perry and Jonny find happiness.
