Book Blurb

Galvin is the Itáyu pack Beta. He’s never experienced the Wandering and is starting to believe he doesn’t have a destined mate out there waiting for him.

Troy has a secret he can’t tell his friends, he’s a Hunter. His father has groomed him since birth to hunt the unnatural and protect humans. Imagine his surprise when he comes face to face with the very monster he’s supposed to destroy and he feels desire.

Galvin is thrilled when Troy chooses him, but he needs to figure out how to keep Itáyu Lake a secret from the group of Hunters closing in on them when he sees one of them talking with his mate. He also needs to keep Troy safe, knowing the Hunters will use him to get to Galvin.

His problems are further complicated by a member of his own pack trying for his position as Beta. Knowledge of Troy could be the very thing the other wolf needs to push himself up the ladder.

Book Review

On one hand I keep hoping that the community of preternaturals at Itayu Lake could finally get rid of all their enemies so they can live in peace and quiet, but on the other hand I have to admit that it would mean no more stories in this series… and that would be too bad. So in that sense, I was glad that, even though Jasmine got caught and dealt with in book three, the Hunters who have already made several appearances throughout the series are still very much present. In ‘The Hunter’s Wolf’ they move center stage, and with one of them turning out to be mated to the Itayu wolfshifter pack’s beta – the scene is set for a dramatic story.

Troy is a young man with more than one secret. First of all he is a Hunter, raised by his father to kill preternaturals, except he has never managed to kill anyone. I guess you could say he is a somewhat reluctant member of that group. He does think they are all murderers out to kill humans, he just can’t get himself to pull the trigger. Being a Hunter is not something he can share with his group of human friends – since the existence of preternaturals is not general knowledge. As for Troy’s second secret - the fact that he is gay – he can’t share that with anyone. His father might kill him, and his friends wouldn’t be far behind. So imagine Troy’s shock when he runs across a wolf during a hiking trip, figures out he is a shifter, and feels drawn to him.

Galvin is a member of the wolfshifter pack that helps keep Itayu Lake safe. He is an accomplished beta, has never experienced the Wandering (a shifter’s need to go out to find his mate), and has almost given up hope he will ever find the one meant for him. Imagine his shock when, while on patrol, he encounters Troy in the forest – and figures out that not only is his mate human (which is rare enough), he is also a Hunter! His fears about Troy rejecting him turn out to be unfounded, but enough issues remain. Not least of which is an ambitious pack mate who thinks he deserves to be beta…

If you like matings with unusual and unexpected pairings, if you want to see how a Hunter and a wolfshifter manage to build a relationship against the odds, and if you’re looking for the newest adventure in the ‘Itayu Lake’ series and are ready for yet another suspenseful read, then you will probably like this novella.
