Book Blurb

Texas native Colt Burrow isn’t happy about his third cold, lonely Christmas in frozen Michigan. But when fate sends him a gift in the form of an abandoned puppy, he can’t keep his heart from melting. With the puppy’s companionship, he doesn’t feel so isolated anymore, and the holidays don’t seem as bleak. He even finds enough Christmas spirit to take Roger tree shopping. But just when Colt’s starting to hope Roger’s owner doesn’t show up… he does, and Colt doesn’t want to say goodbye.

Will Roger end up being Colt’s Christmas heartbreak… or his Christmas miracle?

Book Review

I love the fact that the author dedicated ‘Roger’ to “all those who love their fur babies”. Well, I more than qualify under that description. The blurb drew me in and since I adore this author, I was gung-ho to read this latest holiday story from her.

I empathized with Colt from the moment I met him although I would have preferred the icy, wintery cold of Michigan versus the heat of Texas. I did understand why he wanted to leave his small town after his boyfriend broke up with him and then flaunted his new man he was seeing, and enjoying, in Colt’s face. And, being a big dog lover, I would have had to bring Roger inside after finding him in the snow, shivering. Colt does try to figure out who his owner is but is unable to read part of Roger’s ID tag. But it has been seven years since Colt lost his beloved coonhound and he doesn’t plan on replacing him with Roger, so he is determined to find Roger’s owner.

Of course, he still wasn’t impressed with the snow or freezing temperatures, but knowing someone was at home waiting for him made it bearable. He no longer hoped Roger’s owner would show up. Actually, he’d said a couple prayers of late that they wouldn’t. Funny how quickly a furry little thing could worm its way into his heart.

Much to Colt’s dismay, Killian, Roger’s owner, shows up on his doorstep after looking all over for him. Colt is seriously upset about losing Roger as the little guy has really helped change Colt’s Bah-Humbug attitude and made him start to feel the holiday joy he used to before he moved to Michigan. However, not all is lost as there is quite some attraction on both sides, and before Killian leaves, he determines to take Colt out for dinner and drinks after the holidays to say thank you.

A truly adorable holiday story to bring joy to even the most curmudgeonly of sorts. I really enjoyed this and wished it had been longer. I definitely could have read more about Roger!
