Why can't life give him a break?

Five years ago, Jerry Wilkerson was running with a biker gang, making mistake after mistake, till he ended up in the hospital with a gunshot wound, facing criminal charges for drug distribution. On top of everything, he'd fallen in love with the narcotics agent who took them all down. Or rather, with Cyrus Cooper, the man that agent pretended to be.

Making a deal with the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau kept Jerry out of jail, sending him undercover as Brody Jenson, a petty criminal able to get into places other agents can't. He's satisfied with his life—or would be if he wasn't still longing for someone who never existed.

Then a man steps out of his dreams and into his life, who's everything Jerry ever wanted.

Except for the part where Jerry might have to arrest him.

Book Review

“Why can't I catch a break When everything's going my way, I trip and fall flat on my face. Same tragedy, different day.” ~ Set It Off (Catch a Break)

Jerry, of 'Petty Crimes' by Eden Winters, enjoys his job at the SNB (Southeastern Narcotics Bureau) even though he has to work with his sarcastic uncle, Lucky, and Bo, his partner, both at work and home. Although he hesitates to admit it, he is lonely; Jerry would love to have someone to come home to, to have a relationship like the one that Bo and Lucky enjoy. Jerry doesn't see that happening in his current job as an undercover agent named Brody. But when he meets motorcycle-riding, tough guy Nico, he dares to dream that it just might happen.

Nico has gone undercover to discover who killed his partner and best friend in the illegal prescription drug trade. When he meets Brody, he is instantly attracted to him, but his mission comes first. Suspecting that he can get information from Brody, Nico starts following him. Nico is sure of it when he sees Brody walk away from a drug bust.

When he notices someone following him, Brody becomes paranoid, afraid that the men he put away from his former motorcycle gang are out to seek revenge. Brody doesn't know that it's the sexy man he met in a bar the night before.

Brody and Nico start working together to disrupt the supply chain and bring to justice those who are preying on people who are in pain by giving them drugs that are addictive, therefore, giving the doctors and distributors an endless source of patients. The more they dive into the case, the more they realize how deep-seated the conspiracy is.

Wow! I sensed that things were going to be hot between Jerry and Nico, but I never expected just how steamy they would get! They were exciting characters whose chemistry was off the charts. Seeing Lucky and Bo and other characters from the Diversion series again was terrific. I miss them all! Although it was a spin-off and could have been read alone, having read the entire series, the references made me smile. Thanks, Eden, for bringing the gang back together while adding a few new characters too.
