Twenty-six-year-old barman and cabaret entertainer Justin has recently moved to London for a fresh start. Charismatic and flirty, Justin is naturally the center of attention wherever he goes. There’s only one problem: the object of Justin’s affections, a handsome, enigmatic bartender named Yena, isn’t won over by Justin’s charm. In fact, he flat out turns Justin down.
Stripping off his showmanship frills and charms, Justin aims for a different approach: reveal himself for who he is. Underneath his public face Justin is an honest young man who wants someone special to share his time with… and laugh at his awful jokes.
Justin can only hope the real him is irresistible to the man he loves.
Have you ever come across a character in a book who makes you want to knock them down a peg or two? You know—the good-looking one who thinks the world revolves around them, and they're God's gift to men/women? Well, this book has one who is definitely among the top ten on my smackdown list.
Justin is a cabaret entertainer who recently moved to London to make a fresh start. Working as a bartender to support himself until he hits the big time, Justin and his friends are flitting from one bar to another doing what they call "cocktail research". At the third bar they enter, Justin lays eyes on a gorgeous guy behind the bar who ticks everything on his list. Up until now, Justin has always been the center of attention. With his charm and flirty ways, he's never had any problem getting any man he wants, but this particular guy doesn't seem too impressed with Justin, and shoots down Justin's attempts to ask him out. Most people would get the message and leave him alone, but there's just something about Yena that keeps Justin coming back, determined to break through Yena's reserve, even if Justin has to show him who he really is—something Justin has a very hard time doing.
Yena is a shy, reserved bartender who's quick with a quip, and serves up a mean cocktail, but when it comes to anything more personal than that, he refuses to let anyone close. Of course, working with Eric (my top ten smackdown list character) it's no wonder! When a cute customer named Justin asks him out, Yena refuses to take him seriously, because no one who looks like Justin would ever want anything more than a quick romp in the hay, and Yena doesn't do one-night stands. Justin manages to slowly break through Yena's walls, and the two start dating. Just when things are looking up, Eric plays on each man's insecurities, trying to end the relationship before it really gets started.
If you want a story about two men who want true love, but are unsure that the other is the one they're looking for, and almost let love get away because of their insecurities and other people's manipulations, then you'll thoroughly enjoy this book.
