Book Blurb

After a decade of living under the iron rule of a sorcerer, dragon shifter, Duncan Moore finally has his chance for freedom. With his former master dead, all Duncan has to do is steal the very thing that has been holding him captive all these years, his dragon's eye. The stone holds his magic and his dragon self and without it, he can never go home again.

What should be an easy theft turns complicated when he finds that someone has beat him to the eye and he has no idea where it could be. To add to things he suddenly finds himself teamed up with the dead sorcerers' son, Trent. For years Duncan has longed for Trent, but had never dared act on his desires. Then one night of passion between the men changes everything and Duncan realises that he could lose something far more valuable than his dragon's eye, he could lose Trent.

Will Duncan be able to save them both? Or will he have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

Book Review

Although this is only a short book of novella length, Stephani still manages to impart a sense of plot within a few pages, giving you a history of the story, and a meaning behind characters' actions before you even have a true sense of the characters themselves. With a touch of magic, just a smidgen of action, a dash of domination, and a heap of lust between dragon and sorcerer thrown in, this story will leave you hungry for more.

Duncan is a dragon shape-shifter, caught in lust with the one person he can't afford to be: Trent. Trapped for a decade, unable to trust anyone around him, Duncan craves freedom more than his next breath. No longer knowing how to be himself, cringing at the mere mention of a dead man's name, Duncan's one desire is to be free once more to find himself, or at least, whatever is left after over a decade of abuse.

Trent is a sorcerer, the son of the man who stole Duncan's' life. Unable to act while his father was alive, just as caught in his own father's web of hatred as Duncan, Trent knows that now it is too late. An honorable and noble man despite his father's influence, Trent aids Duncan, all the while knowing Duncan will leave as soon as he is able. Rather than stand in Duncan's way, Trent hopes that 'if you love something, let it go and it will return to you' will hold true.

Dragon's Eye is a great adaptation on other dragon shifting stories, still managing to remain unique despite small similarities. The idea of a "dragon's egg", or vessel in which magic and soul are contained, is not a new one, but Stephani writes in such a way that for me as a reader, new light is breathed into the concept. An enjoyable short read, I would recommend this story for anyone who likes unusual shape-shifter stories with a touch of fantasy thrown in, written in a contemporary style.
