Falling for the dragon wasn’t part of the plan.

When Lord Marcus set out on his quest, it seemed a simple enough task to accomplish. Slay the dragon and rescue the princess, securing his father’s approval and earning his happily ever after—only the princess is a witch and the dragon is nowhere to be seen. Instead he finds a young man who has a very big secret and is in far greater need of rescuing. Marcus’s well planned quest might have taken an unexpected turn, but his happy ending could still be within his grasp, if he can earn the trust of a dragon who has been betrayed and hurt by everyone he has ever known.

Book Review

This third book in the ‘Gay Ever After’ series is another creative remix of well-known fairy tale elements, selected and combined into a new story with a sense of humor and a sense of the dramatic. The result is a new perspective on more than on old story. While there is a dragon, a witch, a lord on a quest, there are also a few twists to the original characters and some additional dark plans that have nothing to do with any attempt to free a princess that I have ever read before. A traditional fairy tale this is not, but ‘Destiny and Dragons’ still makes for an imaginative love story and a very happy end.

Lord Marcus has been told to find, rescue, and marry a princess by the end of the year… or else lose his inheritance. While Marcus is only moderately interested in a princess and doesn’t necessarily want to slay a dragon, he dutifully sets out to win his father’s approval. But what Marcus finds is not at all conducive to making that plan a success. There is no dragon. The princess turns out to be a witch who is imprisoning a starving young man, and said man has a huge secret – one that makes everyone run from him – except Marcus. And the deeper he digs into what is going on, the more secrets and problems he uncovers. I can’t say much more without revealing a huge spoiler, so let me just say that I hugely enjoyed the new roles all of the players played. Very cleverly done!

If you like old fairy tale elements combined in an entirely new way, if you're looking for an unusual love story that contains lots of magic, and if you’re looking for a read that is funny, heartwarming, and perfectly fairy-tale-like, then you will probably like this novella.
