New to town, werewolf Dark can’t believe there’s a restaurant called The Vegan Werewolf. Even harder to swallow is the fact that the place smells amazing. The food, however, is easy to get down – it’s some of the best he’s ever had and that’s saying a lot as it’s, unbelievably, vegan. What’s also not hard to swallow is Erik, the sweet Chef of the restaurant, and Dark picks him up after the place closes.
Erik’s got a secret, though, one he keeps hidden deep down inside and Dark threatens to bring all the things Erik has buried to the surface.
Can Dark convince Erik that there’s more to life than being a vegan? And that, just maybe, wolves do mate for life?
First Edition published at Amber Quill Press in January, 2014.
A vegan werewolf. Yep, you read that right. I was about as incredulous as Dark, the werewolf part of the couple in this book, when I first read it. It's the name of a restaurant in the town Dark has just moved into, and it emits the best smells Dark has ever scented. So, even though he believes he will hate the food, he gives it a try. The owner of the place, Erik, is very proud of his food, but he has a secret. One he has been hiding from himself, and when Dark uncovers it, Erik is very uncomfortable and denies everything.
Both men in this story made me smile. Dark because he is such an alpha wolf, convinced his way is right. He is determined to "educate" Erik and make him see the light. He also keeps mentioning the fact how much he loves Erik's food despite the fact it's vegan and how much he craves a steak in the same thought. Erik is funny because he knows exactly what the secret is he carries, but he refuses to acknowledge it. Even when Dark keeps mentioning the truth, Erik refuses to budge. It's a good thing they are physically so attracted to each other, because it gives them the time they need to figure out the rest of how a relationship is going to work.
If you like stories about stubborn alpha werewolves who learn to compromise, if you enjoy reading about men who snarl and growl a lot before they rip each other's clothes off and put love bites all over each other's bodies, and if you're looking for a very funny, highly entertaining, and super-hot read, then you will probably like this short story.
