Book Blurb

A single drop of blood might hold the key to the fate of the magical world, and Aiden Teine must choose between his bond of love and embracing the power to defeat his enemies.

Aiden’s adjustment to being the first vampyre fae hasn’t been easy, but his ties to warlock Thad Blackmoor prevent him from becoming a monster. With Thad, Aiden has a new family, a new purpose, and a new reason to live—though he’s technically undead. There’s one problem: Aiden’s control over his vampyre is weakening. He must learn what’s triggering his violent reactions before he surrenders to the creature within. To complicate matters, Aiden discovers his transformation might not be complete, and he fears what he will become.

Aiden’s search for answers thrusts him into a frightening world filled with deception, new dangers, and apocalyptic visions. The part destiny intends Aiden to play could alter his relationship with Thad forever. If Aiden, Thad, and the entire magical community are to survive Icarian’s latest scheme, Aiden must interpret the meaning of the prophetic blood drop before it falls and ushers in the destruction of all creation—and the warlock he loves.

Book Review

As I pretty much expected, this fifth installment of the magically fascinating series around ‘The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge’ is told from Aiden’s point of view. Aiden used to be a prince of the fire fae, but events have fundamentally changed him, he has been banished from the Otherworld (the land of the fairies), and he is now the first-ever vampyre fae. He walks a precarious path, and his ties to Thad are pretty much what saves him from going off the deep end. So far, that is. Of course new threats soon surface, and Aiden’s control over his inner vampyre becomes tenuous at best – and the race to keep him sane soon seems impossible to win. Since Aiden is the one to tell this story, I had a front-row seat to the continuing battle for supremacy in the magical world, not to mention survival of the Havenbridge family.  Old and new enemies abound, their newest tactics make victory seem less and less likely as events unfold, the secretive Conclave becomes positively hostile, and Aiden and Thad’s personal and relationship issues had me – yet again - glued to the pages. Seems to be a permanent situation with this series!

Aiden faces a real struggle between his fae side and his vampyre side. He knows that he can’t give in to the vampyre, because bloodlust and chaos await him there. But his fae side is weakening and Aiden is ready to panic – it’s the fae part of him that ties him to Thad. This vulnerability has Aiden make a few questionable choices, all while he is desperately trying to avoid becoming a vampyric monster. Aiden is an extremely honorable guy, intent on protecting those he loves, and the battles he has to go through and the challenges he faces would have destroyed a lesser man. I really got to admire Aiden even more as I watched him grow and change and finally figure out his role in life.

Thad is an academically talented ice mage who hides his fear of losing anyone in his family and his protectiveness behind a fierce temper that has even Aiden ducking for cover. He and his brothers face the numerous challenges thrown at them in this newest installment with courage and strength. As it turns out, they have to learn to work even more closely together than ever before if they’re going to stand a chance to prevent the newest enemies dark plot to destroy them all. Thad is there for Aiden, once the stubborn former prince lets him in, and I was on the edge of my seat more than once as they battle death yet again, face the destruction of the entire world, deal with a multitude of twists and turns, and confront betrayal at the highest level.

If, like me, you are a fan of the ‘Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge’ series, if you enjoy stories where characters have to face impossible choices that challenge their vulnerabilities and everything they think is true, if you want nonstop action and adventure, and if you’re looking for a read full of secrets, suspense, surprising revelations, and fascinating characters, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. As ever with this series, I can’t wait for the next one – please hurry up and write it, Jacob!
