Book Blurb

Balancing holidays between two families can make cheerful celebrations into chores. Carson Benedetti's mom has overscheduled the Christmas holidays and she's more than insistent that boyfriend Tynan Harris come into the family fold. There's so much to do Tynan can't find time to bring Carson over to his own family and he feels like they are being left in the dust.

After dating for nine months, and with their relationship becoming more serious, Tynan's patience is sorely tested by the multitude of Benedetti family traditions keeping them busy. Tynan needs to figure out how to find some breathing room, split their time more fairly, and make Christmas more than just tradition by rote.

Book Review

Christmas traditions, as it turns out, can be a lot of stress. And not just because they can be a lot of work, but, in the case of Carson and Tynan, because different families have different traditions. And because families expect to follow the traditions together. So what does a new couple do when both their families clamor for their attention, and they don’t even have any time for themselves to create their own ways of celebrating the holidays? It’s not easy, and it’s touch and go for Carson and Tynan for a while, but luckily they love each other enough to deal with it.

Carson’s mother is a true Christmas fanatic, has scheduled everything to a T from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and will not even consider the idea that Carson and Tynan might not be there for every single event. Carson has a hard time getting her to talk about it and finds it difficult to stand up for himself, since he knows how important the celebrations are for his mother. But he also doesn’t want to disappoint Tynan and lose out on their own personal time.

Tynan’s family also has their traditions, but his mother is much more easygoing. As a consequence Tynan ends up spending more time with Carson’s family, and begins to resent the emotional pressure Carson’s mother exerts. And while Tynan is very careful not to blame Carson, the situation becomes increasingly tense as Christmas approaches.

If you’re looking for a realistic story about the family-based stress Christmas can cause for new couples, if you want to see a very mature way of dealing with the issues, and if you’re looking for a read that might make you laugh and see a little of yourself in the characters, then you will probably like this charming short story.
