Guidelines
All books submitted to Rainbow Reviews for review must meet the following guidelines:
1. The central storyline must involve queer characters. This means gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters must be the focal point of the story. The GLBT content, characters, and relationships must be viewed in a positive light; this site aims to celebrate queer writing, and will not review derogatory works. Having a gay background character or a menage scene that involves two men in an otherwise heterosexual romance does not count as queer, I’m sorry. Also, books whose main characters or subject matter is not queer but which are written by queer authors aren’t GLBT. Again, sorry.
2. All genres will be considered. This isn’t just another erotica review site. We do review erotica and romance, as well as BDSM and explicit M/M or F/F sex, but sci-fi, fantasy, literary fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and other genres not mentioned here are also welcome.
3. Stories that glorify violence, rape, incest, or bestiality (sex with animals, not sentient creatures), or which have extreme religious or political agendas, will not be reviewed.
3. We review stories with a word count greater than 3k. However, we will not review a short story that appears in an anthology or collection we’ve already reviewed.
4. Anthologies and single author collections are accepted. However, 90% of the stories in the book must have GLBT content. Individual stories within an anthology will not be considered unless available for purchase as a stand-alone title.
5. If your book is part of a series, please do not submit a book out of sequence. Unless the series can be read out of order and still make sense, or the titles can stand on their own, please start with book one. Please note, though, if book one contains no GLBT content, we won’t be able to review it.
6. Books may be published in print or e-book format, but an electronic copy must be made available for review in either unlocked PDF, HTML, or RTF format. If your book is only available in print, please send us a copy of it electronically for review (galleys and ARCs are fine).
7. Books must be submitted by the publisher. No books will be accepted directly from the author. If your publisher doesn’t already send us books for review, please ask them to add us to their list of reviewers. If you’re self-published or if your publisher won’t submit books to us on your behalf, I apologize but we are unable to accommodate your request at this time.
NOTE: We reserve the right not to review any book at our discretion.
