Eric is so deliciously complex. On the outside he’s haughty, rich and unpleasant. But that hides a much softer, more vulnerable side. So I quickly moved from wanting to slug him to needing to hug him. Nick had his own issues, too. Coming to terms with his latent sexuality and the fear of discovery by his team-mates.

Both guys came across as real and three-dimensional. They weren’t perfect, nor fatally flawed. Instead they possessed human failings which made their situation all the more believable.

I’ve not read the previous books, but as this is a prequel I didn’t need to. So this would be an excellent place for newcomers to the series to begin.
