BOOK BLURB:
A fish, a pigeon, and a swan. Unusual creatures with unusual tales of love lost and discovered await you in this new m/m romance anthology. Read about the biggest fish story ever and the man who had to come to grips with the stories his father told in The One That Got Away by Sharon Maria Bidwell. Follow a racing pigeon as he tries to get back to his lover in Fiona Glass's, Steal the Sky, and finally return to the struggling relationship between Rudy and Sandy as they come to terms with Sandy's heritage and rank in Emily Veinglory's heartpounding tale The Swan Prince.
BOOK REVIEW:
The three stories in this anthology all deal with shape shifters ~ not your usual garden variety of wolves or cats ~ these shifters are, in order, a fish, a pigeon, a swan and twenty rats. Yes that’s right ~ twenty rats.
In “The One That Got Away” by Sharon Maria Bidwell, we meet Billy Wilson taking a trip with his deceased father’s ashes, ready to dunk dear old dad in the lake where he’d spent many an hour of his life fishing. Billy’s not that keen on fishing, but when a rather beautiful young man named ‘Gill’ emerges from the water and tells Billy the lake is his natural habitat, Billy falls hook, line and sinker for the fish-man.
“Steal the Sky” by Fiona Glass is the continuing story of Avery and Charlie. Avery is a racing pigeon when he shifts and has the ambition to take part in a pigeon race that starts in the north of Scotland. Charlie, his lover, is reticent but finally agrees to let Avery take part. However, things go awry and Avery loses his sense of direction ending up lost and far from home ~ his only chance of survival in the hands, or rather paws, of a mouse.
“The Swan Prince” is Emily Veinglory’s second episode of the relationship between Rudy and Sandy who originally met when Rudy tried to rob the museum where Sandy was employed as a security guard. Now Sandy’s father, intent on usurping his son’s right to be the Swan Prince, holds Rudy hostage, forcing Rudy, in demon rat form, to serve him and destroy Sandy and his mother.
My personal preference for shifters veers more to the cat-like creatures of the night, but all three stories presented in this anthology have merit in that they take on very different aspects of shape-shifting, and will definitely hold interest for fans of this genre.
