BOOK BLURB:
Valentine is the story of Valentine, a sorcerer in the heyday of the Roman Empire. Though Claudius has made a decree forbidding marriage, Valentine weds people in honor of the God Lespercus.

He knows that his magic, his work, comes from a higher power than the Roman Emperor. When he is visited by Asterius, the chief of the Roman Guard, Valentine falls in love with him. But how can he love someone who is supposed to be an enemy?

Valentine will have to free his heart and face death in order to become the man of legend?

BOOK REVIEW:
The legend of St. Valentine is retold with a twist in Jamieson Wolf's book, Valentine. History tells us that when Valentine was in jail awaiting a death sentence, he fell in love with the jailor's daughter. Here however, in this telling, the jailor becomes Arterius, a hunky member of the Emperor Claudius' guard.

Valentine has been flying in the face of Claudius's edict banning all marriages and Arterius is sent to tell him to immediately cease and desist from such traitrous acts. But a carnal lust springs up between the two men and they indulge in a clandestine and torrid affair. Claudius, jealous of their love, has Valentine thrown into jail and condemned to death.

What's a hunky guard to do when the only way he can touch or kiss his lover is through the metal bars of a prison cell? Well, where there's love there's a way...

This story, though slight and definitely unhistorical, is an entertaining read and Wolf sets the scene well, creating the proper atmosphere of ancient times and customs.
