BOOK BLURB:
Detective Cooper Thomas was kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic serial killer bent on revenge. If that wasn’t bad enough, Alec Whitley, the only man Cooper ever really loved, the man who left him ten years ago without a word, came back just in time to rescue him. Cooper never thought he'd see Alec again, let alone owe the man his life, so while Cooper might still have feelings for Alec, he's not sure he wants to open himself up to that kind of hurt.
Now, six months later, Alec wants to discuss their past and plan their future. But before Cooper can come to terms with Alec being back in his life he has to discover who’s killing young gay men before he and Alec become the next victims. Between undercover assignments and startling revelations, Cooper and Alec don't know if their fragile relationship can survive. Can they solve the case and find a way to be together?
BOOK REVIEW:
Stormy Glenn’s latest release, "A Promise Given," is the much awaited follow up to "A Promise Kept." The story of Alec and Cooper picks up six months after the end of the first story and will keep your interest until the last page. The premise of this story is a good one, the mystery surrounding a recent murder holds the reader’s attention until the end, it brings back many favorites from the first story, and it introduces some new characters as well. While this could be a standalone story I would not recommend it as there is a lot of background history that will be beneficial to the reader.
As far as the characters are concerned, they heat up the pages. Cooper and Alec have been separated for some time so it is understandable that Cooper is in no hurry to see or listen to what Alec has to say. This is something that the readers will be able to understand, and the angst that Cooper is already going through because of his attack only adds to the men’s problems. Then there is the sudden murder that makes it necessary for Cooper and Alec to work together. Once the reader hears way the men have been separated, the reader, as well as Cooper, will find it easier to forgive Alec.
This story is full of wonderful secondary characters as well, many of whom are screaming for their own stories. If you visit the author’s group site you will see that everyone has their own wish for who will be next. Fans of this author and series know however that it does not matter who comes next as the story is sure to be terrific.
