BOOK BLURB:
Editor Lynne Jamneck has collected thirteen erotic science fiction stories from noted writers of speculative fiction. The nature of attraction, of lesbian desire, and what makes us human, awaits readers eager to explore the future. With tales by such award-winning authors as Nicola Griffith, Gwyneth Jones, and Melissa Scott, Periphery allows passion to intersect the boundaries of space and time.
BOOK REVIEW:
Science fiction as a genre is eminently qualified to study philosophy, metaphysics, religion, spirituality, culture, as well as character delineation, scientific achievement, technology (or lack of it), plotting, and suspense. Such is the case in this collection, where stories range a wide gamut.
From Cecelia Tan's "The Spark," which speculates riffs from the concept of the coincidence of all the demises among rock musicians, to Marianne de Pierres "Origins" to Lyda Morehouse's treatment of futuristic religious prostitution in "Ishtartu," readers can chew into deep subjects while enjoying steamy Lesbian lust and romance.
My personal favorites would be "Ishtartu" ~ without giving away the plot I can safely say author Lyda Morehouse examines many preconceptions and stereotypes and then strips them all away ~ and "Origins," but readers will find each story thought-provoking and worth reading.
