BOOK BLURB:
Shimizu ~ the once-glittering glass pyramid in the middle of Tokyo Bay that housed a million people ~ is now a crumbling super-prison owned by Iyashii Corporation. Tetsu Hogosha’s mother was caught in the city’s conversion. In a criminal system where the care and feeding of a child adds time to the mother’s crime, she signed him away to be an Iyashii bond employee as her only chance at freedom.

Now Tetsu is a free man and head of Iyashii’s security forces for the country. But he has a secret sideline that might one day break Iyashii’s hold on Shimizu. For months, he has watched the male dancer serving Iyashii’s executive tea room. Tetsu knows every flawless movement the male geisha will make, from tea ceremony, to fan dance, to the slow revelation of his naked, tattooed flesh before he takes the executives, alone or in pairs, into the bedroom suite adjoining the tea room to satisfy their every desire.

For just as long, Tetsu has tried to convince himself he watches his unwitting accomplice only to record the secret messages embedded in the tattoos’ design. But when Iyashii sends its top assassin after the male geisha, Tetsu is faced with the cold hard choice of protecting the message and its secret language at all costs or rescuing the one man capable of challenging his loyalties.

BOOK REVIEW:
Tetsu Hogosha’s life has not been an easy one. When the Iyashii Corporation took over, they destroyed many peoples lives, including Tetsu’s mother, who was captured. When Tetsu was six years old she signed him over to the corporation. Now Tetsu is free and as head of the Iyashii security force, he is finally in the position to take it down, something he has been waiting for. The rebels have an ingenious way to transfer info, in the body art of one very beautiful and unwitting male geisha, Youran. All Youran knows is that he found a tattoo artist who is willing to change the tattoo whenever he wants. Tetsu reads the code was Youran dances, lately he has become more and more captivated by this very beautiful young man, but things are about to change. Tetsu sees an Iyashii assassin arrive without Tetsu knowing about it ahead of time. Fearing the worst, Tetsu makes a mad dash to get Youran and himself out of the line of fire. Will Tetsu arrive in time? Who sent the assassin? Who really is Youran and why would they want him dead?

Ms. Vremont has created a fast paced futuristic story about what could happen if the wrong people take control of the government. The idea of a group taking total control is frightening and Ms. Vremont has written a very descriptive story that comes to life. I was fascinated by how the “women’s writing” or Nu Shu was used by the opposition party to carry messages back and forth. I loved watching the love between Tetsu and Youran unfold as they never expected the other to have feelings for them. The twists and turns in the story kept me guessing until the bitter end. Thanks go to Ms. Vremont for an interesting read.
