BOOK BLURB:
A group of colonists is fighting for their survival on the planet Delphi 3. The contact with Earth has broken off, leaving the people to their own devices far away from their home world. What little grows in the dry desert sand is nearly killed by the heat of the two suns burning over Delphi 3.

In this unfriendly climate, the physician Trevor tries to help the people of the town of Phocis, where a mysterious illness is slowly killing the inhabitants. Can he find the source of this disease, maybe with the help of the Mayor's son Quentin?

BOOK REVIEW:
I'm a great fan of Science Fiction movies anyway, so there was no way for me not to love this story. The planet Delphi 3 and the way the people live on that planet reminded me a lot of the Mad Max movies. Other aspekts of the storyline brought scenes of such movies like 2001 ~ A Space Odyssey and Red Planet to my mind.

But even if you're not that much into Sci-fi movies and don't know what the heck I've been talking about so far, I still would recommend this book to you. Even though Hyacinth's Light is just 65 pages long, it features a very dense and captivating story. The strange and foreign world on the planet Delphi 3 is described in a very vibrant and colorful way.

Trevor and Quentin, the two main characters and even part of the story reminded me a little bit of "A Strong and Sudden Thaw" by R.W. Day, another great book, even though that one has a different setting. And I mean that in a positive way, it's not copied or something. The interaction between Trevor and Quentin is sometimes very emotional, but always tender ... err, well at least on Trevor's part.

The ending is a little bit ... well, let's just say over the top. But even that reminded me of some movies like Red Planet, Sunshine and Solaris. Overall a great story, an exotic setting and likable characters sum up to a very enjoyable and highly recommended read.
