BOOK BLURB:
Geoff Radcliffe is having a mid-life crisis just in time for the holidays. He goes into a tailspin after hearing from his first love, picks up a stranger who locks him out of the house in nothing but his pants, and then he gets up the courage to go get rid of his grey, and the colorist refuses to 'do' Geoff's hair! But Abe Golden, thrilled that the hunky silver-tipped guy has admitted he's gay, does 'do' him, taking him home for the hottest night of Geoff's life. After three heavenly days of smoking hot sex, Abe has done the unimaginable: he's fallen in love. And when he finds out that Geoff has been using him to practice for another man, Abe is at first heartbroken ... and then he plots how to show Geoff the value of combining silver and gold.
BOOK REVIEW:
In this sweet, hot, and engaging romance, Devon Rhodes gives us a story about two very attractive men approaching each other from two very different places.
Geoff Radcliffe is a handsome man in his forties, divorced, successful, and lonely. He had a m/m affair in his teens with Jesse, who broke his heart by cheating on him with a girl. After that he spent his life firmly in the closet, dating and marrying only girls. As the story opens he hears from Jesse for the first time in over twenty years, which leads him to start noticing the silver hair at his temples and feeling old.
Abe Golden works as a colorist in the salon downstairs from Geoff's office. Younger than Geoff, he's out and proud and also lonely, because his boyfriend Tyler has left him. The connector is Kim, Geoff's assistant who is also Abe's longtime client.
This clever story revolves around Geoff mid-life crisis when he realizes he might have the chance to have Jesse back after all these years ~ but he's twenty years older. Before this can happen, he becomes involved with Abe, who convinces him his silver streaks are sexy, and proves it in the most direct of ways.
Devon Rhodes does a fabulous job of bringing these characters to life, building their world carefully and colorfully. The touching scenes of hot sex combined with awkward insecurity on the part of both men shows the reader how fragile the possibility of new love can be. She opens their hearts for us, and we fall in love with them, too. The cover of this book is especially wonderful; I can really imagine the men pictured there as the characters.
"Silver & Gold" is one of my favorite books set around the Christmas season, with its touches of diversity and celebration. I highly recommend it.
