BOOK REVIEW:
Although this collection of thirteen stories of gay life is primarily set in the 80's, to this reviewer there is a 50's feel, a sense of innocence and naivete in the midst of the narrators' explorations of the world, their orientations, and those who enter their sphere of contact. Even in the midst of erotic encounters, this sense of the naif is still present, and raises the collection to a more intriguing level.
The stories cover a wide range and offer something for most any reading taste. My favorite is probably "A Night Out of Time," a sweetly romantic, yet sensual, short tale of the paranormal, in a classic New Orleans situation: the haunted antique residence. All the pieces share the New Orleans theme, basically, which is very appealing for readers like me who will reach for anything "New Orleans style."
