BOOK BLURB:
Victor Bayne’s job as a PsyCop involves tracking down dead people and getting them to spill their guts about their final moments. It's never been fun, per se. But it's not usually this annoying.
Vic has just moved in with his boyfriend Jacob, he can’t figure out where anything’s packed, and his co-worker is pressuring him to have a housewarming party. Can’t a guy catch a break?
On a more sinister note, Vic discovers there’s absolutely no trace of him online. No trace of anyone else who trained at "Camp Hell," either.
Everyone Vic knows has signed a mysterious set of papers to ensure his “privacy.” The contracts are so confidential that even Vic has never heard of them. But Jacob might have. What other secrets has Jacob been keeping?
BOOK REVIEW:
Secrets, secrets, everywhere ...
“Secrets” is the fourth novel in the on-going series of PsyCop novels by Jordan Castillo Price. This may be the best of the series. The mystery is exceptional and the relationship is first rate. Once again, Jordan Castillo Price has created vivid flesh and blood characters, full of humor and life that fully engage the reader and compel them to continue reading. Central to the novel is secrets ~ apparently, everyone has some. The question is do these secrets have the ability to help or destroy and why are they secrets to begin with? The mystery is an excellent puzzle with clues subtly dropped here and there throughout the story.
The stakes are high for both the relationship between anti-hero Victor Bayne and his boyfriend Jacob Marks and solving the mystery of the horrible sex crimes being committed at the retirement home. Relentlessly, the story moves towards its conclusion with heart-thumping suspense and genuinely emotional moments. This is a well-developed and well-balanced story of a suspenseful paranormal mystery and a gay relationship without affectations or stereotypes. Despite an epilogue that sets up for a sequel ~ not a favorite thing of mine ~ I finished this novel feeling rewarded and satisfied. I highly recommend this novel!
