BOOK BLURB:
Jory Keyes spends his time drinking and cruising gay bars picking up one night stands. Then suddenly he becomes the only witness to a brutal murder. Even although the killer vows to silence him, Jory refuses to go into witness protection. This puts him into conflict with Sam Kage, a very straight and very hot police detective.
When passion flares between the two men, Sam is astonished. Is he really gay? And if so, what will this mean to his career, and his life? As the danger threatening Jory increases, Sam senses that nothing is as it seems, and wonders who is really after his new-found and forbidden love?
BOOK REVIEW:
As an avid reader, I have read a lot of books this year. Some of them were very very good; however, Mary Calmes' "A Matter of Time Book 1" is probably the best book I have read in quite some time. Originally written as one book, this story which comes in at approx. 235,000 words (per the author's blog), has been broken up into four novels. While the premise may be a common one do not let that dissuade you from getting this story. This is a fast paced book that will grab you from the very beginning. It is a mystery/romance yet it is not so bogged down with one theme that the other is forgotten. "A Matter of Time" is also written in the first person point of view but, whereas some books are heavy on the descriptive, this one is full of dialog allowing the reader to get to know all the various characters that enrich this book.
One of the main characters in this story is Jory. He is also the one whose point of view we are reading. At 22 he has already had many hard knocks yet, he continues to carry an air of innocence about him that draws people to him like bees to honey. Unfortunately for Jory this is not always a good thing. While doing a favor for one of his many friends, Jory witnesses a murder and ends up running into the arms of Det. Sam Kage. Although Sam is as straight as they come he is unable to keep his hands off Jory. He is also the quintessential alpha male and therefore believes he knows what is best for the younger man he must now try to protect.
With his feelings for Sam growing everyday, his confusion over what he is to Sam, a boss who is too good looking for his own good and just as alpha as Sam, and of course the killers that pop up when he least expects them, Jory's adventures make for an interesting tale that will become a must keep for many readers.
