BOOK REVIEW:
Jenny Braden’s life since marriage has been an unending horror of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and long days of hard work homesteading in Canyon Diablo in Arizona Territory. Jim married her to get the grubstake from her father and cares nothing for her and not much for his land, only for his nightly mescal and his violence.
An unexpected Apache attack rescues Jenny from her marriage, taking Jim’s life. Even more surprising than her freedom is discovering the Apache warrior band is led by a woman, Miakoda. Not only is she strong and powerful, she is a shaman as well. Quickly she and Jenny partner and Jenny begins to experience all the life she has missed as Jim’s abused and downtrodden wife.
Rife with indigenous spirituality, steamy Lesbian loving, and good character development, Apache Eyes is a pleasure to read and a historical education. Tautly plotted and rich in background, this novel will excite and inspire readers. There really are second chances in life, and often what you least expect can be your deliverance. Kudos to Yeva Wiest for this lovely story.
