BOOK BLURB:
This volume features a trio of M/M tales from three of the genre's hottest authors.
- "Winner Takes All" by Laura Baumbach ~ Two vampires face off in a deadly bet that has the winner claiming everything the loser owns ~ including the loser's innocent, unaware human offspring.
- "Gift of the Raven" by Angela Fiddler ~ Cory has always been mercurial; passionate one second and frozen the next, but when he was hot, he was scorching. Luke had brought him up as a vampire but couldn't keep him the first time around. But now evil's come on an arctic wind, and they'll need each other to fight it.
- "Wolfe's Recluse" by Jet Mykles ~ Can Wolfe lure Matt out of his apartment for the first time in two years? Is the gorgeous Wolfe temptation enough for Matt to overcome his fear of vampires?
BOOK REVIEW:
This is another excellent anthology from MLR Press that gives us three different aspects of vampire passion and love.
In “Winner Takes All” by Laura Baumbach we are treated to a hot and sensual story built upon an unusual premise. Malcolm Crane, a thousand year old vampire of extraordinary looks and stature, is stalking the son of the vampire he loved, but killed. When Malcolm and the son, Hunter Pray, meet face to face, an immediate attraction flares between the two, and Malcolm finds that his vow to also kill the son must take second place to a night of intense sex and passion. Ms. Baumbach’s narrative of this scene is a tour de force ~ page after page of vividly descriptive sex that is never tawdry or clichéd.
The intensity continues with Jet Mycles’ “Wolfe’s Recluse.” Two years before, Matt had witnessed his lover’s grisly death at the hands of a rogue vampire, and ever since then has not left his apartment after dark. He is kept busy at his computer by Wolfe Larsen, a handsome business man who allows Matt to work from home, keeping in touch by phone and email. Although they have never met, Matt feels a warm affection for his boss and happily agrees to meet him for lunch. But lunch becomes a later appointment, and Wolfe’s true interest in Matt is revealed in a manner that leaves Matt conflicted and afraid, while falling love with his handsome employer.
In the third story “Gift of the Raven” by Angela Fiddler, two vampire lovers, Luke and Cory, who have separated but who are still in love with one another, have to fight a mysterious force, and the two vampires who ‘made’ them. This is an intriguing story, with overtones of S&M that had me riveted from start to finish.
All three stories, although very different in content and style, complement each other well, and left me looking forward to reading more from these imaginative and creative authors. Highly recommended.
