BOOK BLURB:
For 15 years, Kristian Taylor has lived like a hermit. After letting the love of his life walk away, he's languished in apathy and inaction. Now, a chance meeting in the grocery store will force him to face his old demons. Will apathy take over again, or will Kristian allow himself to be free?
BOOK REVIEW:
This is a story about stubborn foolish misplaced reactions. There’s more than a large helping of loss. But dessert comes in the form of second chances.
It is easy with the benefit of hindsight to judge Kristian harshly for his decision to deny the truth of his feelings toward Jake fifteen years ago. Though having said that I still think he was a fool to turn his back on love. True, Kristian has suffered for his decision, beating himself up daily over it. However, I suspect Jake also has suffered, and that I find hard to forgive Kristian for.
The twist near the end might have been a little obvious, but I didn’t care. I cheered when it happened. Shopping for wine and milk was raised into a whole new dimension.
The compellingly realistic character portraits in this short story will send your loyalties in several directions. This is fine writing, Ms. Blackwell’s words wringing out pretty much every emotion possible.
