BOOK BLURB:
As a young gay man ~ and a werepanther ~ all Jin Rayne yearns for is a normal life. Having fled his past, he wants nothing more than to start over, but Jin’s old life doesn’t want to let him go. When his travels bring him to a new city, he crosses paths with the leader of the local were-tribe. Logan Church is a shock and an enigma, and Jin fears that Logan is both the mate he fears and the love of his life. Jin doesn't want to go back to the old ways, and mating would irrevocably tie him to them. But Jin is the mate Logan needs at his side to help him lead his tribe, and he won't give Jin up so easily. It will take time and trust for Jin to discover the joy in belonging to Logan and how to love without restraint.
BOOK REVIEW:
When readers think about shape shifter stories the first thing that usually comes to mind are werewolves. While these are often fun, sexy stories after awhile you start craving something more. Mary Calmes’ Change of Heart will certainly fill that bill.
The author brings a refreshing change to the world of shape shifters with her story of were panthers. As the story unfolds and the author reveals aspects of the panther society it is done in such a way that the reader is left wanting more. This society is also strongly governed by their laws regardless of how archaic they may be, resulting in more than one confrontation between the various panthers.
The characters within this story are just as interesting as the world in which they live. Jin is a reah and while reahs generally well cared for due to their place within the tribe they are also female. When Jin reveals he is both a reah and gay he is nearly beaten to death and left on the side of the road by his tribe members. Fearing similar treatment at the hands of other tribes, Jin and his friend Crane never stay in one place to long and always try to stay away from other panthers. Logan on the other hand is a semel, the tribe’s leader and under pressure from his tribe members Logan has decided to take a mate from a rival tribe rather than wait for his reah. When these two are finally face to face it becomes clear to each that they have just found their true mate. With many misunderstandings and outside interferences their relationship will not be an easy one.
With secondary characters that are just as strongly written and a story that runs smoothly this engrossing story will keep the reader’s attention till the very last page.
