BOOK BLURB:
Once Mark Riordan had a happy, ordinary life ~ before a vampire attack left him changed. No longer human, but not quite vampire, Riordan now hunts the evil vamps who terrorize his city, giving in to the desires his vampire half needs to survive ~ occasional blood and constant, empty sex.
Until he meets Roarke. The centuries-old vampire fills a need Riordan can't explain. Joining forces, they battle a nemesis from Roarke's past. But when the immortal Roarke sickens mysteriously, Riordan faces the ultimate question ~ how much will he give up for the man he's come to love?
BOOK REVIEW:
Mark Riordan had a simple life before a vampire attack left him neither a vampire nor a human. Left in limbo, the man is forced to leave everything he has ever known and loved. Now he spends his time hunting vampires and trying to fill the void of loneliness that never seems to disappear. That is until he meets three-hundred-year-old vampire Roarke, who isn't like the rest of the vampires Riordan usually meets. No, this one wants to play on his team, and maybe play with him too.
I am so glad I got to review this bumper edition, because if I had to read these stories separately as they came out initially I would have been very impatient. Ms. Jewell writes some good stories ~ very good stories. Her writing is almost enchanting and has a very seductive and smooth feel to it. Her characters are plain luscious and Riordan and Roarke are characters I'm going to remember for a long time coming.
The emotions in this story are staggering, the use of imagery and wording to put across both men's feelings throughout this epic, 340 page book is amazing. You really get to know these characters, there is nothing superficial or one dimensional about them. They're raw, stark and unapologetic. There is no pettiness about their life, and whilst I found the story to be sorely overrun with sex scenes, they were fortunately integral to the story.
Overall, each story blends into the next. We see very colorful secondary characters and some situations did have me uncomfortable with the introduction of Riordan's first love Melinda. However, the author stays true to her characters and she adds enough drama and suspense into each story to keep the story flowing well. An excellent piece of fiction in the paranormal genre.
This collection also comes in print, and if I were looking for a great vampire read, then I'd go for the print version ~ it's definitely a book to keep on your keepers shelf.
