BOOK REVIEW:
Jes Vale ~ formerly Jesamine Vickers ~ is released from prison after an eight-year sentence she has served for conviction of killing her sister Lizzie's husband. Jes delivered an infant daughter soon after her imprisonment, and was forced to give her up for adoption. Yet three years ago her sister commenced sending Jes photographs of a young girl purported to be Jes's daughter Lola.

Now upon her release, Jes has only two overwhelming goals: to retrieve Lola and raise her and to instigate an emotional and sexual relationship with her beloved former prison therapist, the appealing Pashindra Khan, with whom Jes is obsessed. If only life were that easy! Soon Jes discovers untold secrets about her daughter, her sister's new husband, and her own father, and try as she might, the course of true love with Pash proves to resemble a stormy ocean and not a smooth river.

Jes is a special character in her own right: cynical yet capable of deep emotions and of love, a woman who demands the right to live her own life as she chooses, yet who is stonewalled at nearly every turn. It often seems that everyone is against her, and those who wish to use her for their own ends are lined up to take their turn. Yet as a strong individual, Jes faces all that life throws at her, determined not to be carried down by the undertow of sorrow, grief, and trouble. A cast of finely tuned secondary characters run the gamut of the human continuum to entertain, dismay, and delight the reader.

Author Kaz Jordyn delivers a delightfully enrapturing novel in her newest offering, A Warped Sense of Uma. I was captured from the introductory page, and the book's pull on the reader never diminishes. Fascinating characters and utterly unexpected suspenseful twists keep interest high. Ms. Jordyn doesn't disappoint any reader expectations in A Warped Sense of Uma.
