BOOK BLURB:
Trust Me by Astrid Amara: Parmas City Police Department Officer Brian Day’s osmotic powers are growing stronger. The department uses Brian’s powers to rid the city of demons. Unfortunately, the bad guys aren’t the only ones Brian is hurting. Brian’s lover, Detective Jay Yervant, wants Brian to get help before things go too far. When their cases become entangled, though, Jay and Brian need each other now more than ever.
Dark Waters by Nicole Kimberling: Michael Gold is a professor of Demon Studies at Parmas City University. He and his lover, hell cop Dion Argent, are in Iron Springs so Michael can document a faun’s Half Moon Ceremony. When a dead body turns up, though, things get dangerous, fast.
Such Heights by Ginn Hale: Photojournalist James Sparks is at the Storm Palace taking pictures of the beautiful wildlife when he captures a murder on film. When Detective Ben Moran is sent to the Storm Palace to investigate, he’s eager to get James out. He wants his lover to take less risks. James has a different view and so, they broke up. The last person James wants to see is Moran, but when things get dangerous, he’s the only one he can turn to for help.
BOOK REVIEW:
Demons, sorcerers, and magical creatures run amok in "Trust Me." It’s so fantastical at times, it’s hard to keep track of everything. The world Astrid Amara creates in "Trust Me" is amazing, though. It’s similar to a normal existence except there are odd creatures running around. The ending of "Trust Me" is happy, if not bittersweet.
"Dark Waters" delves a little deeper into Michael and Argent’s relationship, which I love. Because they are unobtrusively sexy, I was eager to read more about them. The baramans and fauns in the story are borderline amusing as Michael and Argent solve a crime and uncover a deeper mystery. "Dark Waters" is full of mystery, relationship woes, and familial issues.
The angst between James and Moran in "Such Heights" is just right. It’s enough to keep the reader on edge, but not so much that your heart is breaking. "Such Heights" also has a terrific storyline. It’s creative, suspenseful, and very intriguing.
Authors Amara, Kimberling, and Hale create a world in the Hell Cop books that is awe-inspiring but can be somewhat overwhelming. The focus is taken off the main characters at times as strange creatures and events are constantly introduced. Hell Cop 2 is a continuation of Hell Cop and while you don’t need to read the first anthology to follow the second, I would. All three stories are connected, which makes reading the next one that much better. Hell Cop 2 is a creative collaboration full of suspense, hot sex, and very likable guys.
