BOOK BLURB:
Hitchhiking is a dangerous proposition. Aidan is just hoping for a ride and no trouble when a bloke named John stops to give him a lift. John seems a decent sort, though. When night falls, Aidan would do John a 'favor' to say thanks, just like he would any guy who seemed interested, but finds himself in a bit of a bind: he might be getting fond of the man. Can a stranger who's good company become more than that in one short day?
BOOK REVIEW:
How wonderfully refreshing to have a story written in my own language. Can’t exactly say “The Queen’s English,” because I don’t imagine Her Majesty coming out with phrases such as “C’mon, give over. And stop being such a big girl’s blouse and get those bloody jeans off!”
Aidan and John are delightful. The comedy, and camaraderie, flow effortlessly. Aidan’s growing attraction to John is depicted naturally. Yes, he’s grateful to John for giving him a lift, but it soon proves deeper than that.
Aidan’s past, prison, and the relationship with his cellmate were most touching. They really helped to give Aidan a credible back story, a reason for him wanting to travel to Scotland. This scene was genuine pathos, which contrasted wonderfully with the rest of the story. I think this is why it stood out so much. Excellent plotting.
I absolutely adored this story, and it spoke to me on so many different levels. Alas American readers may need the help of a British slang dictionary. But it’d be worth the trouble. Thas done a reet nice job, J.L. Merrow.
