BOOK BLURB:
When Noah Parker left his hometown six years ago, he left behind more than his family and the confines of a town he'd outgrown. He also left behind Cal Green, his childhood best friend and high school love, and it's the one thing he's regretted ever since.

Now, called home by his ailing father, Noah decides he's had enough of regrets and sets in motion a plan to convince Cal that they're meant to be. Noah has a full tank of gas, a reluctant passenger and 629 miles to change the past before his gas, and his time, runs out.

BOOK REVIEW:
I ached for the mistakes both Cal and Noah had made, and the pain that caused them. Cal had been too needful, and thus had popped the question too early. Noah’s refusal sent Cal scurrying to batten down the hatches to protect himself. Meanwhile Noah, although he loved Cal, still knew he had a lot of growing up to do and couldn’t say “Yes” to Cal’s marriage proposal. He also knew he needed to see the world before he could settle down. On balance I think my sympathies lay more with Cal, but that could be because emotionally I more closely identify with him.

The setting of the cab of Noah’s truck for them to hash out their differences was an inspired choice. It was a confined space, but one that was mobile, allowing them to see such sights as the northern lights, the lush countryside of New Hampshire, plus the more familiar town in which they both had grown up. Noah’s idea, which gives us the title, that he has “629 miles give or take” to get things right with Cal, is an awesome one. And they need most of those miles, because a great deal of hurt, mistrust and fear has to be dealt with. And the working out of their past differences was very well-handled. There were tears, angry accusations, deep sorrows.

Once the two men realized they couldn’t live without each other, were much happier together than apart, the resultant coupling was as momentous, passionate and all consuming as one would expect. And this I imagine will be just the first of many as the men ride off into a beautiful future ... together.
