BOOK BLURB:
There’s a very mixed reception for Joey and his lively, unruly friends, when they go trick-or-treating on the penthouse floor of the exclusive Royal Apartments. They find themselves the butt of everything from hostility to humor to handfuls of caramels. But at the final door, a horrific masked figure tricks Joey into finding what might just be the best treat of all.
BOOK REVIEW:
I loved this short story set on Halloween. Joey and his best friends are going trick-or-treating at the posh Royale Apartments where Johnny Depp is rumored to sometimes stay. The guys are wearing elaborate costumes, for example:
-
"Cody's angelic blue eyes glinted out from the red paint Gaz and I had dabbed all over his face and skin, everywhere it showed. Two small horns clung to a band he'd clipped on his blond curls. He was the only guy I knew who could wear nothing but a black leather tunic and loincloth ~ with a devil's forked tail attached ~ and still look like the Archangel Gabriel just looking after the clothes for a friend."
"Bren was in some kind of hybrid swamp monster costume, like a squid and a Komodo dragon met and mated in the dark when they were too drunk to care."
Clare London has an amazing way with words ~ you can just see these guys in their elaborate costumes, after a few beers, trolling the penthouse floor of a fancy apartment building. You can almost see these guys laughing their way down the corridor to the total bemusement of the residents.
Bren and Cody are together, Vince is trolling for girls, and Gaz and Joey are best friends, but have never looked at each other in quite *that* way. However, this might be the Halloween with the best treat of all, when Joey actually takes time to listen to Gaz.
This fun, fast, funny story is well worth your time any time of the year!
