BOOK BLURB:
In a world where magic has become no more than childish fantasy or cinematic illusion, secret towns exists beyond the sight and understanding of mundane humanity.
Green Grove is such a town.
Sky Hawthorn is a single mother struggling to support herself and her blind son, on nothing more than a waitress’ salary and hardheaded determination.
Meg has spent years watching Sky stumble through one doomed relationship after another with the wrong men, never daring to reveal the secret love she has for Sky.
When a lawyer arrives to tell Sky that an aunt she’s never known has left her a manor house in a place she’s never heard of, her family’s life is turned upside down and Sky is left with a big choice to make.
At that moment, with that single decision, the three of their lives change forever.
BOOK REVIEW:
Sky Hawthorn is a young single mom whose life has been put on hold for love of her son Drake, born with congenital blindness. In addition to his physical handicap, Drake is blessed with intellectual giftedness and a highly developed talent for sensory perception, which more than mitigates his vision difficulties. Sky is always willing to surrender her dreams to support Drake's, and he returns her love with a maturity unusual at that age.
Supported emotionally by family friends, Meg Hawthorn and her mother Peggy (Sky's sister-in-law and mother-in-law), Sky and Drake have surmounted the abandonment by his father John, who simply disappeared, a victim to his alcoholism or something unknown. When an attorney appears with information that Sky has inherited a house and property from an aunt she doesn't remember, multiple denouements begin to unfold as secrets-familial, magical, and emotional-start to unravel.
A delightful, in-depth mix of magic, craft, and romance, with tasty dollops of lesbian and straight encounters added for spice. Author Moondrancer Drake subtly and effectively weaves multiple plot layers, unfolding revelation upon revelation in a natural and realistic manner as each occurs in the lives of her numerous characters. I found myself enthralled and anticipating further novels from this skilled author, who blends so many divergent factors into a fascinating literary stew. I can highly recommend Ancestral Magic and its author, Moondancer Drake, whom I hope will have a long literary career to come.
