BOOK BLURB:
Orphaned at eleven and bounced around the foster system, Tim learned young that the only thing he could control was himself. It was a lesson he took seriously, and it's the only thing that keeps him safe from more heartbreak. Conner doesn't understand this desire to control things, but he doesn't need to. He loves everything about his control-freak friend, even the way he quirks just one eyebrow. He has for years.
With Con's arrival, everything starts unraveling in Tim's life. He's questioning his sexual orientation, wrangling with emotions from his past, and fending off questions from Con's well-meaning family. Drowning in a world out of his control, his one hope is to let go and trust that love will save him. But after so many years of burying his feelings, he's not sure it's possible.
BOOK REVIEW:
This is my first time reading a book by J.B McDonald and I'll have to say that it was absolutely wonderful. The story is about Connor (Con) and Tim, a firefighter and a doctor who have been friends since they were in their pre-teens. They were separated when Tim's parents died and Con went to live with his ultra-liberal grandparents.
Con decides to move to San Diego to be a fireman and moves in with his supposed "straight" friend Tim until he can find a place of his own. Connor has always had a crush on his friend but never acted on it since Tim was straight. Con is at the wrong place and the wrong time and gets hurt in a robbery attempt, which ends up putting in the hospital, then sending him back to Florida with his grandparents. Tim decides to try dating another doctor at the hospital, Peter, which doesn't end so well.
Con returns back to San Diego and the two start dating to see if Tim is really gay (which he is constantly saying he is not). Tim does have some emotional problems to go through before he can fully commit to Connor.
These characters are very vivid in my mind. They are described very well and I could feel as if I were there in San Diego with them and watching them make love. I could even smell the smells the author was describing.
I don't want to give too much of the book away but I love this type of book, with one character being gay and the other being supposedly straight and the two finding love with one another. Kudos to J.B. McDonald, and I hope I get to read another book by this author.
