BOOK BLURB:
After witnessing a mob hit, surgeon Jack Francisco is put into protective custody to keep him safe until he can testify. A hitman known only as D is blackmailed into killing Jack, but when he tracks him down, his weary conscience won't allow him to murder an innocent man. Finding in each other an unlikely ally, Jack and D are soon on the run from shadowy enemies.

Forced to work together to survive, the two men forge a bond that ripens into unexpected passion. Jack sees the wounded soul beneath D's cold, detached exterior, and D finds in Jack the person who can help him reclaim the man he once was. As the day of Jack's testimony approaches, he and D find themselves not only fighting for their lives ... but also fighting for their future. A future together.

BOOK REVIEW:
'Zero at the Bone' by Jane Seville has all the great markings of a good story well told. We get to meet characters that are not all white and not all black ~ the gray area is where this story begins and the men ... well, read.

'D' is a trained killer, one who is blackmailed into going against his own code (don't kill the 'nice guy'). Jack is drug into the exiting world of mobsters and witness protection by wanting to do the right thing. Both reluctant heroes, I enjoyed the symbolism of the characters' conscience and their way of relating and working together after D decided to protect Jack against all odds.

And here is where the heart pumping really kicks in. D and Jack are on the lam and running from all parties. The attention that Seville brought to life in these pages makes the ink nearly come alive.

This is a book about choices and self respect, while still being funny and captivating. How a relationship can grow in spite of the circumstances and personal hang-ups is brilliantly written.

And as any action book that is worth it's salt, it has a wee bit of heavy angst, and here is where we truly see Jack and get to read about his feeling and thoughts ~ his evolution ...

I read this book thinking about what a great movie it would be, how it fits all Hollywood's parameters and its adaptability...plus they ride into the sunset ~ for a while.

I enjoyed the anti-hero taste, how the men started in the book doing things 'his way or the highway' and yet had this wounded air and inner strength that made them remarkably enjoyable, not just another gun-ho ex-military man and the overwhelming situations Jack and D get into.

The description of the acts in Seville's writing was so vivid, and the mystery! It was very interesting and made me focus in a way I don't usually do when there is HEA.

It's a very good, hard-action type of book, and as a first book for Jane Seville it was good. Maybe a bit overachieved in the end with the blunted disposition for a sequel ~ so many characters and changes were dropped in the epilogue. Made me wished I stopped before that. My take ~ sometimes more is not best!

All in all this book is a wonderful way to pass a day so go read!
