BOOK BLURB:
Mike is thrilled when his old university crush turns up at his door in answer to his roommate advertisement. Wes doesn't remember Mike at all, or even realize he's gay, but that doesn't stop Mike from pursuing a determined campaign of seduction. The trouble is, Mike isn't ready to give up his free and easy lifestyle and settle down with just one man.
Mike isn't comfortable with public displays of affection. Wes doesn't like anything resembling the proverbial closet, but Mike's still buried deep inside one where his family is concerned. Will Wes have the patience to deal with Mike's issues, or will their dream come true end up a nightmare?
BOOK REVIEW:
Wes Shaw is a first-year resident at the hospital. He's looking for a furnished room to rent, and answers Mike Evans's ad. Mike recognizes Wes immediately from college where he was active in the GLBT club; in fact, Mike used to dream about him regularly. But back in college, Mike was deep in the closet and living at home, so Wes has no reason to remember him. The two men get along beautifully and fall relatively quickly into a comfortable sexual relationship.
Mike's still not out to his family, but before too long Mike's brother Greg comes to stay, in town looking for a job. It turns out that Greg is engaged to Wes's younger sister. Mike comes out to Greg, not wanting to cause wedding unpleasantness, only to discover that Greg is already pretty sure Mike's gay. After all, he never dated girls in high school or college, nor did he show any signs of interest.
Rather than prolong the inevitable, Mike flies home a few weeks later to come out to his mom and dad. Since Wes is Greg's fiancee's openly gay older brother, the cat is going to come out of the bag sooner than later anyway, and no one wants this on the wedding weekend, when both Mike and Wes will be in the wedding party.
Can Mike's family accept his orientation? Will they still love him? And what about his relationship with Wes? At this point the men are basically roommates-with-benefits. Can they settle into a more lasting relationship? Will it be Mike's college dream come true?
This sweet, beautifully characterized story takes us through almost a year in the life of two very likable men in their mid-twenties who have approached being gay in very different ways. They both come from loving families and have similar goals and expectations, but Wes never hid what he was while Mike still does. Neither was wrong in his approach, but it is interesting to compare and contrast the two results, both positive in this case. Addison Albright writes a heartwarming tale of love, with a lot of sexy spice thrown in. The story is written very smoothly, with minor twists and turns on the road to love. We get to know Mike and Wes as they get to know each other, and their happy ending is well deserved.
I think you will enjoy Addison Albright's writing style. She has a clever way with words, and expresses feelings beautifully. This is a lovely book, and I know you will enjoy it.
