BOOK BLURB:
Freeman's return to the city is quiet, without fuss ~ the way he likes things. But, he's missed by more people than he thought: his ex-wife, his ex-lover, and his ex-business partner. One wants friendship, another one intimacy. The third just wants him the hell gone again. Freeman ~ private, controlled ~ hasn't time or appetite for trouble. But, when he strikes up an unusual, ill-advised friendship with young, lively, amoral Kit, it seems trouble's come looking for both men, ready to expose secrets that can destroy the fragile trust they've built. Freeman's more ready for the challenge than anyone realizes when the choice comes down to peace or Kit's life.
BOOK REVIEW:
Freeman has returned to town after being gone for several years. A 'finder' of things for his clients, he just hopes his old life does not interfere with his new one. Unfortunately, for Freeman things do not work out that way, and soon Freeman is racing to tie up many loose ends.
Kit left home for the city in hopes that life with his big brother would be better than what he had with his mother. When he met George, a local businessman, he thought his new mentor would be able to help him get ahead in life. Things go bad fast leaving Kit struggling to survive on day at a time, then he meets Freeman and everything changes.
Clare London's Freeman, a dark tale involving several flawed and troubled individuals, will keep you enthralled until the end. While I found the pace to be very slow in the beginning there were several aspects of the story I just needed to know. What exactly was Freeman's story? Did he really still love Miki? What was the mystery surrounding Kit and why was George hell bent on keeping him around? The need to know the answers to these questions was so strong that before I knew it, it was 1:30 in the morning and I had finished the book. Ms. London answered each and every one of these questions throwing many twists and turns into the book as she did so. More than once, I questioned the competency of Freeman only to be surprised in the end as everything was being wrapped up. I would be more than happy to read any sequel to this story should Ms. London ever write one.
