BOOK BLURB:
Micky's the resident goth on his hall at university, and it hasn't exactly made him the most popular guy at school. Until Halloween that is, when everyone wants to borrow his clothes for costumes. Rhys wants more than just Micky's clothes, but he's not sure he can convince Micky that he's for real. Will they have more than just a Halloween illusion?

BOOK REVIEW:
In this sweet romance, Micky finally gets asked for a favor from Rhys, the guy he’s been secretly eying. Thankfully the favor is one Micky is more than happy to fulfill and what better way to spend Halloween than laser tag followed by a hot sexual encounter in a church graveyard with a vampire. If this isn’t every goth’s fantasy, perhaps it should be.

As a short story, the characters were given just enough interest to capture my attention while creating a desire for more in the future. Micky and Rhys are simultaneously funny and sexy as university freshmen that seemingly have nothing in common yet the night is more fun than either expected. Both men are shy and careful, unsure if the other is interested or even gay as they gravitate towards each other. Their encounter in the church graveyard is fun and steamy, as are the two young men.

The author has a great voice and portrays the goth Micky and more wholesome Rhys so well, down to the slight intimidation of other students. Blending easy and descriptive writing with humor and romance makes this short story a fun and enjoyable read. The following quote is typical of the witty dialogue and fun interaction between Micky and Rhys:

"'Man, think about it. I’m making out with a vampire, in a churchyard, on Halloween! That’s got to be, like, ten goth points right?' Well – against the sharp stones of a churchyard wall, but what’s a few feet between friends?

Rhys grinned back, and then dipped down to and in to give Micky’s neck a quick stining nip.

'Eleven.' Rhys poked his tongue out between the fangs, 'Bitten by a vampire. I bet it’s a hundred if you get blown by a vampire in a churchyard on Halloween.' His voice dropped to a seductive rumbles as he leaned in to whisper in Micky’s ear. 'Do you want to get blown in the churchyard?'”

Both Rhys and Micky are pretty young and the limitations due to the length of the story don’t allow a thorough look at the characters, so while this may not be a happy ever after ending, it’s certainly an interesting and delightful look at the start of a relationship. As with most short stories, hopefully this will give you a feel for the author’s solid writing and fun characters.
