BOOK BLURB:
As with any war, business throughout the galaxy booms following the end of the Lindotion conflict, and people and planets begin rebuilding their lives. While attending a seminar, John Barrington meets Donnell, a fellow small-company CEO. They forge a friendship during the two weeks of instruction, and Donnell tempts John in a way he has never been tempted before. John knows the rest of his life in this new galaxy of peace may hang on a single decision: either settle for another empty relationship with a woman or follow the truth in his heart.
BOOK REVIEW:
John Barrington is conflicted about his sexuality and becomes even more so upon meeting Donnell, a small company CEO ~ and a Marcanian. An alien, whose quiet formal manners and forthright approach John finds intriguing and very attractive. The men meet at a business seminar on John's home planet, Giria Prime, part of the Quadrenian Confederation.
John does not consider himself gay, and is at first puzzled by his attraction to Donnell. As the seminar progresses, he is drawn closer and closer to Donnell but balks at accepting an invitation from Donnell to attend a sports meeting with him. Kicking himself for being chicken, John is relieved when Donnell doesn't seem too put out by his refusal and again the men resume their friendship.
As is the case more times in fiction than in real life, straight John allows himself to be seduced by Donnell and the two have a night of sexual exploration ending with passionate love making.
I enjoyed this story, and Ms. Sinclair has done a good job with conjuring a world in the future, but the sci-fi aspect of it felt unnecessary to me. The men could have met anywhere, in Atlanta or Edinburgh, and the story would have been more or less the same. What's nice about it is the way the men get to know one another, taking it slow, respecting their differences, and ultimately realizing their feelings for one another.
