BOOK BLURB:
Mike Paloso has lost count of the number of times he’s helped childhood friend Jay Charles move. Jay’s never had much of a home to call his own, content to follow his boyfriends around, but each break-up means a new pad, until the next guy comes along. This time, it’s different. There’s been no break-up, and no new pad. Instead, there’s one hell of a fixer-upper, and not just the house Jay’s inherited from his latest, late, beau. This time, Mike has to find a way to repair Jay’s broken dreams and mangled heart.
With every reno, there comes some demo, but Mike’s not sure he’s ready to dismantle his life to rebuild Jay’s.
BOOK REVIEW:
Jay and Mickey have been best friends for years. Mickey has watched Jay date numerous men, only to leave or be left by them. So when Jay finally meets a man he loves, he has to watch him die. So Mickey helps Jay move on again, but this time it's different. The death of Jay's lover has hit him hard, and there is nothing Mickey can do to help. With the help of their friends, Mickey realizes that he has to commit to Jay or let him go forever. Both men face hardships and tough decisions; but will their love and friendship hold them together?
This is my first time reading a story by Jaime Samms and how glad I am. The author is a master storyteller, she has a way of using a simple premise, and twisting it around to make it both complicated and thrilling. The premise was a total tearjerker and filled with a lot of angst. If you can't deal with character's going through raw pain (genuine pain) then this story is not for you. It is hard to find a story that isn't superficial in terms of the angst. The author deals with her character's pain ~ and does so for most of the book. It's one of the most realistic relationships I have seen written in a novella.
Jay and Mickey are great characters, I adored Mickey more because I could easily relate to him. He assumed about a lot of things, and figured if things were going to happen, they would. He was such a sympathetic character and he just easy to fall in love with. I honestly didn't think I'd like Jay, but he shot straight to my heart in a couple of lines. Both men are different, but they bring such flavor to the story.
I truly adored this story, I could go on and on about the characters and the writing. Everything was superb, and I politely demand the author to write a sequel for Jay and Mickey in the near future. The fact the author made me love her supporting characters as well, shows you how much I enjoyed "Moving Day".
Pick up of a copy of "Moving Day" ~ I heartily recommend this heart-touching story.
